Moment 01: Art and Climate
During Climate Week NYC (20–29 September) and the Global Climate Strike (20–27 September), within the Hearth Platform, art interventions unfolded across the stunning, untouched landscapes of Sabina (Rieti province, Lazio Region) — a place where nature is not only to be admired but fully experienced.
A Collaborative Vision
This initiative was developed with The Climate Reality Project Europe, alongside DiemVoice, 350.org Europe, Forum Terzo Settore Lazio, the Italian Climate Network, Jobel Group, SabinARTi, and the municipalities of Mompeo, Montenero, and Casaprota. Its aim: to send a strong message about reversing centuries of natural resource exploitation and rethinking humanity’s relationship with nature.
An Unconventional Approach
Breaking from traditional exhibition formats, Miltos Manetas guided an “un-categorising” approach, letting inspiration and the landscape dictate artistic interventions. Artists were invited to respond spontaneously, creating diverse, site-specific works throughout the week.
Sites and Spaces
The interventions spanned iconic locations and everyday spaces alike:
• Castle of Montenero
• Castle of Mompeo projection room
• Municipal theatre of Casaprota
• Palazzo del Gatto (Cat’s Palace) in Casaprota
• Village squares, bars, and libraries
Joseph Beuys’ “Capri Battery”, with its lemon and light, became the emblem of the initiative, featured across images and artworks.
