Momento 01.2
Synchronic unfolded across three Sabina municipalities, Montenero (January 18), Casaprota (January 25), and Mompeo (February 1). Organized in collaboration with the Cultural Association SabinARTi, and the local municipalities, the initiative continued the path opened by Momento 01 (focusing on climate during the 2019 Global Climate Strike) and Momento 01.1 (a roundtable on architecture and territory in Collelungo Sabino).
This edition presented Syncronica, a site-specific project by artist Paolo Vanda. In each municipality, Vanda installed large-scale works (200 x 250 cm) created from painted sheets of paper, cut into palm-sized fragments and then stapled back together. The stapling process twisted and tilted the paper, transforming it into three-dimensional landscapes of valleys and mountains.
The artworks revolved around two intertwined themes: Fragility and Vitality. Fragility emerged in the vulnerability of paper, cut into hundreds of small pieces, and vitality in its reassembly into vibrant new forms. Vanda’s work evoked resilience: just as broken matter can be recomposed into something stronger and different, human beings too can rebuild, gaining new strength through connection with others.
This philosophy echoed both local and global traditions. In Western culture, a broken vase is considered irreparable; in Japan, however, the art of Kintsugi repairs cracks with gold, making the object more beautiful and unique than before. Vanda’s Synchronic reflected this sensibility, expressing the human capacity to continuously recreate oneself — differently, originally, and synchronically across places.
